2024 Working Design Portfolio- configured to illustrate innovation partnered with an empathetic approach. With proficiency in SolidWorks, VVVV, CLO3D, and various CAD/CAM processes, the following proposals, studies and award-winning projects frame the intersections between inclusive design and disability study, health/medical intervention, and data presentation.

Summary

Joseph Fletcher Herbert

Each work reflects a commitment to user-centered principles and dignity-oriented inclusive design. Guided by a first-class BA (Hons) in Product Design and bolstered by a Distinction in MSc Disability Design and Innovation, this portfolio expands on how an empathetic approach can meet the needs of diverse users and enrich the HCI experience.

A unique lighting system, displaying personalised, real time motion graphics via VVVV patch maps to transform personalisation data into illumination that reflects the behaviour of the user. This design is produced as a solution for users struggling to find a work life balance.

The proposal aims to reframe the way we view smart products, and how media art can be blended with product design to create more immersive and attractive products. OKARI utilizes personalisation data packaged within an app to create data sculptures based on user preferences such as the users schedule and workflow. In this way, the OKARI smart light aims to help the user shift between working and their normal home life.

Produced as a CAD mechanics study, the Cardiovascular fitness machine proposal is used to illustrate technical skill within SOLIDWORKS. The project includes a brand study to replicate the styling qualities of NIKE products.

The journal depicts the design process, styling choices and promotional materials involved throughout the project, as well as simulations tests performed on the model.

Medical Body Area Networks, Data Sculpture, and MND

Building on the initial proposal, combining the physics engine capabilities of SOLIDWORKS and CLO3d to generate composite product simulations.

Displays the potential in composite simulations within product development, especially as a medium for better visualising wearable technology within CAD practice. Contains works drawn out within VVVV involving data visualisation. Summarised pdf, pulled from fmp.
